During the visit, Derek had an interview with Gerald Ferreira, CEO and founder of Virtual Reality South Africa about the future of virtual reality and what role it will play in society over the coming years. According to Gerald, virtual reality will eventually become so realistic that it would be nearly impossible to distinguish between what is virtual and what is real.

After the interview, Gerald let Derek put on a Virtual Reality headset and let him go through Richie’s Plank Experience, where users are challenged to go into an elevator and ascend to the top of a giant skyscraper, where they will need to walk onto a plank leading down to the street below. Derek’s reaction to the experience can be seen in the video below.

Other people that featured in the segment are Mic Mann, co-founder of Ubuntuland, and professor Tshilidzi Marwala, vice-chancellor of the University Of Johannesburg. The episode in which the segment featured aired on the 17th of April 2022. It discussed various topics relating to the Metaverse and Virtual Reality.
