Virtual Reality Education and Marketing Application for Standard Bank South Africa
We were commissioned by Standard Bank South Africa to design and develop a custom virtual reality education and marketing application. The core objective of the experience was to demonstrate that smartphone banking is more convenient, faster, and more efficient than visiting a physical bank branch.
The application was designed for use at events and selected bank branches to educate customers through immersive, interactive storytelling.

Purpose of the Virtual Reality Experience
The goal of this virtual reality application was to demonstrate that physical bank branches are becoming less necessary as digital banking evolves.
Through smartphone banking, customers are able to perform nearly all banking functions without visiting a branch — saving time and improving convenience.

Introduction to the Virtual Banking Experience
To orient users, we created a guided voice-over introduction that placed the participant inside the virtual bank environment.
Once inside, users were able to freely explore the branch in full 6DOF virtual reality using headsets such as the HTC VIVE, Oculus Rift, or Oculus Quest.
Instead of waiting in queues or completing traditional in-branch processes, users were guided through a more engaging and interactive experience that demonstrated the value of digital banking.

Users could walk or teleport through the virtual bank, interacting with different areas and learning about services in an immersive format.

Paying Electricity via Smartphone Banking
To demonstrate convenience, we created a scenario where users were guided through a real-life situation.
In this experience, users were shown a household scenario where they were baking a cake. Midway through the activity, the electricity goes off due to a prepaid system. Users were then presented with two options: visit a physical bank or use smartphone banking to resolve the issue instantly.
The experience clearly illustrated how digital banking can solve real-world problems faster and more efficiently.
Real-World Use Scenarios

Immersive virtual holiday scenario used to demonstrate mobile banking features.
Sending Money via Smartphone Banking
In another scenario, users were placed in a virtual holiday environment on the Portuguese Islands in Mozambique. While relaxing on the beach, they received a message requesting urgent financial assistance.
This scenario demonstrated how users can quickly download the Standard Bank application and send money instantly using smartphone banking.
After completing the experience, users were rewarded with additional interactive activities such as exploring the beach or playing virtual golf.
